What is Farkle
The dice game of risk and reward
Farkle is a push-your-luck dice game played with six dice. Roll, set aside the dice that score, then decide: bank your points or roll again for more. Roll nothing that scores and you farkle, losing everything from the turn. The first player to bank 10,000 points wins. It takes a minute to learn and every roll is a real decision.
- You vs the computer
- Race a computer opponent to 10,000. It rolls fair dice, banks smartly, and plays the final round to win — beatable, never cheating.
- Plays in your browser
- No download, no install, no plugins. playfarkle.app is ready the moment the page loads, on desktop and mobile.
- Hot dice and live scoring
- Score all six dice and roll them again. A live turn-points counter shows exactly what your selection is worth before you commit.
- Progress saved locally
- Wins, best score, biggest turn, streaks, farkles, and hot dice are stored on your device — never on a server.
How to play
How to play Farkle
Farkle is a game of nerve and arithmetic. Roll six dice, set aside the scorers, and decide whether to bank your points or risk them for more. First to 10,000 wins.
- 1
Roll six dice
Start your turn by rolling all six dice. Look for anything that scores: any 1 or 5, three or more of the same number, a 1-2-3-4-5-6 straight, three pairs, or two triplets. If nothing scores, that is a Farkle and your turn is over.
- 2
Set aside scoring dice
Select at least one scoring die (or a full combination) and lock it in. Only dice that actually contribute to the score may be selected — you cannot keep a stray 3 alongside a 1. Locked dice are out of play for the rest of the turn.
- 3
Bank or roll on
Bank to add your turn points to your total and pass the dice, or roll the remaining dice to add more. Every extra roll with fewer dice raises the chance of a Farkle, which wipes out every point you have not banked this turn.
- 4
Race to 10,000
Score all six dice and you get hot dice: pick all six up and keep rolling with your points intact. The first player to bank 10,000 or more triggers the final round — the other player gets one last turn to beat that score.
Tips to win more games
- Bank when you have 300 or more points and only two or three dice left — the odds of a Farkle jump to about 28–44%.
- With four or more dice, roll on. The chance of a Farkle is 16% with four dice and just 2% with six.
- When a roll has a single 1 or 5 and nothing else, take just one die and keep the rest rolling rather than locking every scorer.
- Never pass on hot dice. Six fresh dice with a points cushion is the most profitable spot in the game.
- Until you are on the board, keep rolling: a bank below 500 is not allowed, so take risks earlier in the game.
- In the final round, ignore your usual banking rule. If you are behind, keep rolling until your total beats the leader.
- Three or more of a kind is worth more than the singles inside it — always check for triples before you lock 1s and 5s.
FAQ
Farkle, answered
Straight answers about the free Farkle card game you can play online in your browser.
What is Farkle?
Farkle is a push-your-luck dice game played with six dice. On your turn you roll, set aside scoring dice (1s, 5s, three or more of a kind, a straight, three pairs, or two triplets), and then decide whether to bank your turn points or roll the remaining dice for more. Roll nothing that scores and you "farkle," losing every point from that turn. The first player to reach 10,000 points wins.
How do you play Farkle?
Roll all six dice and set aside at least one scoring die. Then either bank your turn points or roll the remaining dice again. If a roll has no scoring dice you Farkle and score nothing that turn. If all six dice have scored you get hot dice and roll all six again. Bank 10,000 points to trigger the final round, where your opponent gets one last turn to beat you.
Is Farkle free to play online here?
Yes. playfarkle.app is completely free and runs entirely in your browser. There is nothing to buy, download, or install, and there are no interruptive video ads, premium tiers, or paywalls. Open the page, press Play, and start rolling.
Do I need to download an app or create an account?
No. The game is the website — a 100% browser-based build with no app store download and no sign-up. Your stats are saved locally in your browser, so there is no login to manage.
Is it Farkle, Frakle, Farkel, or Farklw?
The game is spelled Farkle. People also search for it as "frakle," "farklw," or "farkel" — all typos or variants for the same dice game, which is also known as Zilch, Ten Thousand, and Dix Mille. If you landed here from one of those searches, you are in the right place.
What counts as scoring dice?
Any single 1 (100 points) or 5 (50 points); three of a kind (three 1s = 1,000, otherwise 100 × the number); four, five, or six of a kind, which double the three-of-a-kind value for each extra die; a 1-2-3-4-5-6 straight (1,500); three pairs (1,500); and two triplets (2,500). Dice that are not part of one of those combinations do not score and cannot be set aside.
What is a Farkle?
A Farkle happens when a roll contains no scoring dice at all: no 1, no 5, no three of a kind, and no straight or three pairs. You lose every point you had built up that turn and the dice pass to your opponent. Points you already banked are never at risk.
How do hot dice work?
If every one of your six dice has been set aside as scoring dice — in a single roll or across several — you have hot dice. All six dice come back and you keep rolling with your turn points intact. You can also choose to bank instead. Because a fresh six-dice roll busts only about 2% of the time, hot dice are usually worth rolling.
Why do I need 500 points to get on the board?
Until you have banked once, your first bank must be at least 500 points from a single turn. It is a common house rule that stops a player from banking a lone 50 and forces some risk-taking early. Once you are on the board, any bank is allowed.
How does the game end?
When one player banks to 10,000 points or more, the other player gets exactly one more turn to beat that total. The higher score wins. If the scores are exactly equal the game is a tie.
When should I bank in Farkle?
A useful rule of thumb: with five or six dice, always roll. With four dice, roll unless you hold 1,000 or more. With three dice, bank around 400; with two dice, bank around 300; with one die, bank almost anything. The chance of a Farkle is roughly 2% with six dice, 8% with five, 16% with four, 28% with three, 44% with two, and 67% with one.
How does the computer opponent play?
The computer keeps the scoring dice that give the best mix of points and remaining dice, always rolls hot dice, and banks once its turn total clears a threshold that drops as it has fewer dice left. In the final round it keeps rolling until it beats your score. It is a solid but beatable player, and it rolls real random dice — it does not cheat.
Are the dice fair?
Yes. Every die is an independent random roll generated in your browser for both you and the computer. The computer gets no loaded dice and no peek at your rolls.
Does the game save my progress?
Your games played and won, best score, biggest turn, win streaks, and farkle and hot-dice totals are saved locally in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server and there is no account. A different phone, a new browser profile, or cleared site data looks like a fresh start. A game in progress is not saved if you close the tab.
Can I play Farkle on mobile?
Yes. Six large dice, the Roll button, and the Bank button all fit on a single portrait screen. Tap dice to select them, tap Roll again or Bank, and start a new game instantly with no page reload.
